The Cowboys take on this weekend’s foe, the Broncos, in scrimmage action over the next two days, and honestly, it can’t happen soon enough.
In the last couple of days, there’ve been a couple more in-practice scuffles. Yesterday, one broke out that initially involved offensive lineman Matt Tarullo and linebacker Junior Glymph, and escalated into Montavious Stanley, Jay Ratliff, and Trey Darilek getting involved, with some fisticuffs involved.
And, on Monday, Deon Anderson and Kevin Burnett got into it.
It’s not uncommon, and it might be expected when you’ve grown tired of lining up across from the same jerseys for three weeks, and simply because things can get a little heated out there when you go after your teammate just like you go after your opponent. And, from a few comments, the triple digit temperatures definitely seem to be a factor as well. When you get heated, you get heated, eh? But, when they have opponents to look forward to more, it’ll be a lot easier to tolerate each other.
It won’t be a surprise if the altercatons spread into the scrimmages, or even into this weekend’s game. If the Broncos get a little rough, the Cowboys’ players might not take too kindly to it, not only because it’s still just the preseason, but also because hey, if they aren’t afraid to mix it up with their own teammates, then they’re certainly not going to take it lightly on their opponents, are they?
But, hopefully the next few days pass without incident or injury, because no one wants to end up on the sidelines unnecessarily.
In injury news, Ken Hamlin’s return to practice on Monday takes one important name off of the injury list. His knock on the head kept him out for a week, more for precaution than for anything else.
The injury list, thankfully, is going to get smaller in the coming days. Terry Glenn should be back from his knee injury within the next week, if all goes well. Defensive lineman Jason Hatcher should also be back soon, as the news on his hamstring has been increasingly positive. Also, wide receiver Jamaica Rector and corner Quincy Butler are listed as day-to-day, so their return may be imminent. The only guy definitely out for an extended period right now is Doug Free, who’s going to be back in two weeks, at best. And, the Greg Ellis situation, is still the major question mark.
Later, I’ll be taking a look at the news around the NFL, and start preparing for the second full week of preseason action.
