Roundin’ it out in San Antone, and looking ahead to tomorrow.

The Cowboys wrapped up the San Antonio portion of their preseason today, and the real action begins tomorrow night, when Dallas takes on the Super Bowl champion Colts at Texas Stadium in a game that will be televised by Fox (7 p.m.).

After two weeks of mostly intense practices, the team wrapped up their stay in the Alamodome with a light morning workout, which was spent on game preparations for tomorrow.

There has (and should it even be a surprise at this point) both good and bad news on the injury front in the last couple of days. T.O. returned to practice yesterday after a few days out with back issues, and he will be playing tomorrow night. I imagine Patrick Crayton will take over #1 receiver duties after T.O. exits (likely after no more than a quarter), and Sam Hurd should see his fair share of the field as well.

However, Ken Hamlin may not play, after a head-on collision with rookie RB Jackie Battle on Monday. Hamlin was nearly knocked out due to the hit, and may be knocked out of Thursday’s game as a result. That means either Pat Watkins or Keith Davis, who split time at strong safety last season, will have their chance to show that the spot isn’t Hamlin’s just yet.

As far as the rest of the starting lineup goes, Flozell Adams and Marc Colombo will be sitting out, since they still haven’t returned to full action after coming back from offseason knee scopes. In their place, second-year Pat McQuistan and rookie Doug Free will be the starting tackles.

And, Coach Phillips mentioned on DallasCowboys.com that, as most would guess, the starters will likely play a quarter, and potentially more. Tony Romo’s probably going to play a few series, or a quarter at most, and after that, it will be backup Brad Johnson, Matt Moore, and then Richard Bartel, likely in that order. Moore and Bartel are vying for the third QB spot, so they might see the most time.

Also, the Dallas Morning News blog reported that Crayton will be handling punt return duties. This was probably an easier decision to make once T.O.’s status became certain. Whether or not he’ll remain there once some of the injured contenders return is uncertain, but as I’ve mentioned before, using him or another significant player isn’t an avenue the staff isn’t antsy to go down.

The players are all ready to go out there and mix it up with somebody in another jersey, and I’m ready for it, too. I’ll have reports and analysis during and after the game, and I’ll also have plenty before tomorrow night as well, so stay tuned, and of course, go Cowboys!
